GEORGE RITCHIE
Program Biography
George Ritchie
has performed to critical acclaim throughout the United States and Canada. Through
his performances and recordings, he has become internationally recognized as
one of the leading interpreters of the organ music of J.S. Bach. He is
co-author with George Stauffer of the book Organ Technique: Modern and Early.
His set of eleven CD’s, surveying the complete organ works of J.S. Bach, has
now been released and has received international praise. At the midway point of
the recording project, Simon Fitzgerald (The
Organ) wrote"…once the remaining volumes are released I know that all
other discs of Bach in my collection will be obsolete." Dr. Ritchie
is also in frequent demand for lecture-demonstrations, workshops, and master
classes, often focusing on Bach performance practices and modern and early
playing techniques. He is Head of the Organ Department and Marguerite Scribante Professor of Organ at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
